HARD DECORA: THE COMIC CHARACTER INSPIRATION

HARD DECORA: THE COMIC CHARACTER INSPIRATION

………….

Webtoon Launching DEC 1ST!

When I released the printed comic ages ago I made some character sheets for Sour Note, Michelle, Chaotic Kaze (renamed from Kamikaze), Screwy Rabbit, and the Scummy Boyz. Looking at those character sheets makes me barf now lol but they were useful at the time. Something I felt was missing from them is a more in depth explanation of how the characters came about and what they are inspired by. There’s only so much you can describe in a sheet.

………….

Michelle

Michelle, the Hard Decora gang obsessed protagonist, is heavily influenced by JanDi from the Korean drama adaptation of Boys Over Flowers. Though she is not Korean I based her style (or lack of it), her baseless courage, and persistence on JanDi’s character. If you watched that show or read the manga you’ll definitely catch some other areas where I pull from the BOF world. My head canon is that Michelle is Filipino and as the author I’m going to work on making my head canon more apparent as my drawing skills improve lol

Michelle is kind of a young blank slate meant to represent the zealous j-fashion beginner that thirsts for knowledge, to be seen by their senpai, and ultimately find themselves in the fashion after a harrowing journey to find it.

Sour Note

(OLD PICS OF ME LOL)

Oh look, it’s me! LMAO Well not how I would describe myself now but Sour Note is basically everything I wanted to be before embarking on my j-fashion journey in earnest. The bad bitch kawaii girl hustler that didn’t need anyone’s help to succeed. PFFT boy was I wrong in thinking that was something to aspire to or that all of that existed in one person at the same time. Sour Note is equipped with a lot of my flaws turned up to at least an 8 and a slightly different sexuality compared to me lol She’s that young buck who thinks she’s got it all figured out until life smacks her in the face.

Beyond that, her chosen style is fairy kei (my first j-fashion love) and she’s always drowning out the world with music.

Screwy Rabbit

(LEFT: SCREWY RABBIT TOP RIGHT: IO SHIRAI MIDDLE RIGHT: ALEX GARCIA BOTTOM RIGHT: AUSKA)

At first glance she’s just an annoying white girl but if you look longer she’s an annoying white girl that’s into pro-wrestling, furry shit, and kinky cute fashion. She grows on you lol Her and Kill Joy are probably my favorite characters to draw and the reason lies in the wrestlers that inspire them. For Screwy Rabbit the pro-wrestlers are Auska, Io Shirai, and Alex Garcia. Auska and Io have this love of the fight personality whether they’re face or heel (aka good or bad) that I bring to Screwy Rabbit. Screwy Rabbit doesn’t give a fuck how big you are, she’s gonna try out her newest move on you anyway! Alex Garcia has THE cutest bubblegum style to her wrestling gear. Even though Screwy Rabbit is more revealing I want to incorporate more wrestling gear into her outfits going forward.

………….………….………….………….………….………….………….………….………….………….

Kill Joy

(LEFT: KILL JOY TOP RIGHT: RHEA RIPLEY BOTTOM RIGHT: KORRA)

Do you mean, BAE? When I meet anyone like Kill Joy in real life I am instantly drawn to them. I dunno, maybe it’s a buff girl thing and the cavalier attitude? Think Korra from Avatar: Legend of Korra for her personality. The main wrestler I pull from for her style is Rhea Ripley who is all punk with a powerful move set. The funny thing is Kill Joy didn’t try to be cut. She just lifts weights to pass the time. Same thing with her love life.

 ………….………….………….………….………….………….………….………….………….………….

Chaotic Kaze

Only slightly past her emo days lies Chaotic Kaze. No she’s really laying there either from a disastrous fall or insecurities about her artistic talent but don’t worry she always gets up with a new resolve to be positive in the face of adversity. Though her positivity comes off as nihilism with a smile. I pull a lot from Kuua Oyasumi, the menhera movement, and the yami kawaii style for her character. In a fight, you’ll think you have her beat until she kicks out at two for another round to prove herself.

………….………….………….………….………….………….………….………….………….………….

Scummy Boys

Oh GOD I can’t wait to draw animals better! Anyways, the Scummy Boys, yes. Are they the main villains or even the 2nd to last boss of the whole story? No. Scummy Boys are the annoying trolls on your last outfit post that don’t even show their faces in the pfp. They can sometimes be formidable but the Scummy Boys are mostly hilarious jerks for Hard Decora to fight.

This doesn’t mean I don’t like furries, in fact I love the idea of a fursona etc. I will have more reputable furries in the future of the comic lol

………….………….………….………….………….………….………….………….………….………….

So there we have it! An overview of the inspiration for the characters that already showed up in Hard Decora:The Comic. Next post I’ll briefly discuss the types of characters that will show up in the next chapter.
